Biography:
At the age of 22, I volunteered as a zookeeper in a kibbutz 3 miles from the Gaza Strip. That’s when I realized my mission on this earth is to spread love through my music. Since then, I’ve travelled around the world with my backpack, tent, and bicycle. Solitude has allowed me to see myself clearly.
I eventually returned to the conservatory, where I found my beloved mentor, Prof. Yaron Rosenthal. He helped me understand what truly sounds good and how to make a piano sound good with integrity and authenticity. All of this comes from surrendering and listening, focusing moment to moment and allowing the ego to step aside. In this journey, I discovered the beauty of improvisation, where I can say the things I need to say at that very moment, as my fingers channel God’s instant inspiration, leaving the Presence to dominate me and the room.
Julien Lee is a classical pianist and improviser based in London, born in Hong Kong in 1994. He began playing the piano at the age of 6. At 18, seeking new perspectives, he studied cinematography in Beijing. After graduating from film school, inspired by rebellious characters, his passion for youth led him to start his wandering journey in the world.
He frequently performs at various significant venues and occasions in London, such as London Fashion Week, Royal St. Katherine Foundation, St Stephen Walbrook of the City of London, Armourer Hall at London Wall, Queen Mary University, London Scottish House, and St Michael’s Highgate. He has also performed abroad in Italy, Israel, Denmark, Hong Kong, and Switzerland. Julien studied for three years at the Jerusalem Academy of Music with the leading Israeli pianist Prof. Yaron Rosenthal, who was a student of Murray Perahia.
Throughout the years, Julien has developed a passion for Spanish classical piano repertoire, improvisation, and chamber music. He has attended piano masterclasses with renowned pianists, including Prof. Norma Fisher from the Royal College of Music in London, Prof. Christian Pohl from the University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig, and Grammy-nominated pianist Andrius Zlabys. Prof. Yaron Rosenthal commented on his unique playing, saying, “His ability to project deep emotions to audiences with nobility in his expressive playing regards him as one of the most unique musicians I know.” Recently, Julien studied with Prof. Mikhail Kazakevich from Trinity Conservatoire in London.

‘ This was such a beautiful concert!! You made that small piano SING. You gave it the dynamic range of a concert grand, and you brought out all the subtlety, the colossal passion, the sarcasms, the longing, the sheer, unadulterated passion, the vital pulses and the many fragrances of the Goyescas. You are a phenomenal musician.’
