Ross Sykes stumbled into the music and entertainment industry while working aboard the QE2. He participated in a singing competition between the crew and passengers and secured second place. Subsequently, he was offered a six-week trial performing with the resident band, which he accepted to continue his full-time employment with Cunard Line Ltd without leaving the QE2. In preparation for his debut performance, Ross underwent dancing and vocal coaching sessions. Inspired by his godson, Michael Russell, he adopted the stage name Mike Russ, following the tradition of other performers. Ross spent nine years on the QE2 before pursuing opportunities beyond. In 2000, due to health issues, he retired from performing but returned to the entertainment industry in 2002, this time as an agent. Since then, he has been working with talented performers and never looked back.
